I love ikea. Ikea makes you want to cash all your furnishings in and redecorate on the spot. You'll find your identity in life changes the moment you stumble across any new living room display. I want to live in those displays, I want to enlist in Ikea armed services somehow where every night I pretend I'm in a new apartment and every morning I wake to a breakfast platter and followed by display arrangement watch duty.

I don't want to know how many calories I consumed today, that's because it was a day out with mom, and while my diet hasn't yet completely broken due to a binge of any kind, I think family and major holidays come first. I did pick the best options every time I went somewhere, and I think that's a huge deal. So often when we're eating with family or friends we feel inclined to indulge for some reason and it's completely unfounded.

Here is something I've started doing and I think it will work for most people. Honestly I thought of this myself with only a slight variations from something I read about portion sizes.

At the beginning of your meal, ask for a to go box. Once you receive it you take 1/2 of your food (1/2 of each side, and entree) and put it in the togo box. It works wonders, then you can eat what's on your plate. We yearn to clear the plate, we have to clear the plate and because of this your brain will not register your done until you see the plate clean. It takes your stomach 20 minutes to catch up. By the time you clear your plate and look over at that togo box, you should (hopefully you're not eating faster than that) be full. Restaurants portion size are grossly larger than any recommended sizes, so anything you can do to limit it will help. That 1/2 you saved, is a little closer to what you should be eating. (most research and surveys I've read say you should be eating closer to 1/3 of the food presented to you, and the rest is more than you need for that sitting.)

It if feels like too small of portions, then look down at your gut Tubby Pants Mcfatty Flab.

The food you take home, you should have for breakfast the next day if it's dinner, or dinner the same day if it was lunch, or lunch if it was breakfast. You'll notice that it will fill you up. It sure does for me.

It takes willpower, and remembering to do it. I have two big hurdles to conquer with weight-loss, portion control and drinking more water. Habits are tough to break, and I always order a diet soda or sweet tea with every meal and have ever since I can remember. I'm constantly thirsty, all the time, it never seems to stop. So i stop at gas stations some time and keep getting more diet pepsi (yes, i'm one of those pepsi drinkers...) From everything I'm reading it seems like that, in it self, is my problem.

Water will quench my thirst, and it's free. So why the hell not?

As with eating right and exercising, I knew being hot for con wasn't going to be easy.

I'm willing to do the work though.
